Manufacturing

Bamboo Mountain has been manufacturing top quality bamboo flooring since 1997. Since we work exclusively with bamboo, our commitment to being at the forefront of the bamboo industry is continuous and ever evolving. All of our products come from a single source, ensuring color consistency and product excellence. The factory is ISO 9001:2000 and 14001 certified, which ensure quality management and a proper environmental management system, respectively. Each step of the production process involves intensive quality control checks. We make regular factory visits to ensure that product consistency, quality, and fair working conditions and practices are upheld. At Bamboo Mountain we stand behind our product and offer an excellent warranty on all flooring sold.

Moso Bamboo. Our flooring is constructed from fully mature, 5-6 year old Moso bamboo that is grown in indepedent plantations close to the factory. While Moso bamboo grows to full height in as little as 4 years, it takes 12-18 months for the plant to reach peak density and color clarity.

Machinery. All machines used in the manufacturing process are the best in the industry. The manufacturing plant is continuously upgrading machinery, and the most recent addition has been a staining machine, allowing for full color staining capabilities. The finishing machines utilize an ultraviolet (UV) light that cures the finish quickly and uniformly.

Manufacturing Adhesives. All of our flooring is made with ultra low VOC adhesives, supplied by Dynea, a worldwide industrial adhesive manufacturer. When tested as a whole, Bamboo Mountain bamboo flooring emits an average of 0.02 ppm formaldehyde, which is significantly lower than the European E1 emission standard of 0.08 ppm formaldehyde off gassing. The United States Department of Occupational Safety & Health Administration allows up to 0.75 ppm of formaldehyde emissions, a figure that is greatly higher than the European E1 standard. By using low VOC manufacturing adhesives, our bamboo flooring actively reduces the threat of interior pollution. The use of high levels of urea-formaldehyde adhesives in interior building products should be rejected because formaldehyde is a known carcinogen, and will continue to off gas for numerous years after manufacture.

! What to watch out for !

There are many import companies offering substandard bamboo flooring, usually manufactured with premature Moso bamboo (as defined as being less than 4 years old). Other characteristics of poorly made bamboo flooring include low performance finishes and adhesives that contain high levels of urea formaldehyde (an off gassing carcinogen). Such flooring material should be rejected and considered unusable for any application. Often found at low prices, these low performing floors are offered by importers and trading houses who source their material from a large base of factories with little or no quality standards. Bamboo Mountain is unable to compete with these predatory prices, however we are committed to offering a far superior, competitively priced product that is designed to last a lifetime. Anything less is unacceptable for you and your home!

What to watch out for when shopping for a bamboo floor is poor construction and finish quality. Look at the ends of the bamboo flooring board, as there should be no gaps between the bamboo layers, and no filler used to fill these errant gaps either. A well constructed bamboo floor is solid throughout. If prefinished, the finish should be evenly coated, and free from excessive orange peel, bubbles, and excessive texture. The micro-beveled edges (if any) should be precisely milled, and should be very minimal in size. Put two boards together to see how they fit together. The floor should be no less than 5/8” thick, as thinner bamboo flooring is highly unstable, and more susceptible to bowing, cupping, and warping.
